Chimera -classic by artstain Chimera -classic by artstain
The Chimera or Chimaera (Greek: Χίμαιρα, Khimaira, from χίμαρος, khimaros, "she-goat") was, according to Greek mythology, a monstrous fire-breathing creature of Lycia in Asia Minor, composed of the parts of multiple animals: upon the body of a lione with a tail that ended in a snake's head, the head of a goat arose on her back at the center of her spine. The Chimera was one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna and a sibling of such monsters as Cerberus and the Lernaean Hydra. The term chimera has also come to mean, more generally, an impossible or foolish fantasy, hard to believe.

Loving the detail work, especially on the Snake. Probably one of the few drawings where it's not an afterthought. As usual, good work!

Isn't it odd how it's always said to be female, but always has the male lion's mane?

The goat can breath fire the same as the lion, allowing it to defend itself from all angles.

The first time I saw the word Chimera was in Final Fantasy IX. It was a gruesome site and oh~the status effects.. T^T

Great drawing, though. You must've at least spent a good hour with this. :D
