The East and the West by artstain The East and the West by artstain
The Eastern Dragon named Shenron or Long and the Western Dragon named Draco.

Eastern dragons are legendary creatures in Chinese mythology and folklore, with mythic counterparts among Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese dragons. In Chinese art, dragons are typically portrayed as long, scaled, serpentine creatures with four legs. In contrast to European dragons that are considered evil, Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize potent and auspicious powers, particularly control over water, rainfall, and floods. In yin and yang terminology, a dragon is yang (male) and complements a yin (female) fenghuang "Chinese phoenix".

In Western folklore, dragons are usually portrayed as evil, with the exceptions mainly appearing in modern fiction. In the modern period the dragon is typically depicted as a huge fire-breathing, scaly and horned dinosaur-like creature, with leathery wings, with four legs and a long muscular tail. It is sometimes shown with feathered wings, crests, fiery manes, and various exotic colorations. Iconically it has at last combined the Chinese dragon with the western one.

you had the right point, they haven't had wings.... but the strange thing is they can swim on air just like illustrated or shown on any chinese movies.

They are named after their species?

Nice drawings, they almost look like wood-cuts. The western dragon actually reminds me a bit of the dragon from "Dragonheart", presumably why he is called "Draco".

Some exceptions to the notion of evil dragons come directly from European folklore and mythology, you know. The French Wyvern was meant to be a protector of the people, similarly is the heraldic Welsh dragon, and in Slavic legend there are two dragons who are brother and sister, the brother is benevolent to humans and the sister is malevolent

There are also examples of evil or beastly Asian dragons, such as the eight headed dragon Yamata no Orochi (although this is a Japanese story, not Chinese).

Yeah, the western DRagon is almost Draco of dragonheart and it was also mentioned in wikipedia.
And about the protector of Welsh?.... never heard that before and the brother and sister seems very interesting dragons.
The very familiar to me is the Yamata no Orochi, the Serpent with 8 heads in one body.

Well, it's not that surprising that you hadn't heard of the Welsh dragon, since not many people outside Britain seem to have heard of Wales, and those that have don't think it's a "real country" because it's part of Britain, but Britain is a united kingdom made up of four smaller countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, each of those are their own country but all are part of Britain. The Welsh have their own government, their own national anthem, even have their own language, and their own flag, on which is the iconic Welsh dragon, protector of the people and symbol of their Celtic heritage. The Welsh Dragon is a large, red, winged dragon with bird-like talons for its four feet, a horned nose and a curled tail with an arrow-head tip. It is often portrayed in a highly stylised manner such as this: [link] and sometimes is shown to have a very perculiar look like this: [link] but other times is shown to have a more traditional look, like this: [link]

Anyway

I think the idea of dragons as evil comes mainly from Christianity in Europe, since dragons were usually pagan symbols.

Nonetheless, this is an excellent piece of art that you've produced

Ah, so you know of the eight headed dragon already then  I see.

Well I'm not actually Welsh, I'm English, but I still like the Welsh dragon.

I think pagan things generally got portrayed as being the Devil by early Christians -- One of the Devil's forms looks a lot like Pan, the pagan god of shepherds, for instance. I never got why Left-handed people were meant to be the Devil though, maybe it was because a lot of Muslims were left handed or something.

Anyway

I must take a good look around your gallery, I had a quick glimpse and it looks like there's some good stuff in there :D
